Ancient Technologies for the modern world...
Kundalini Yoga is a complete science that deals with the physical body, the triad of the mind-body- spirit, the subtle energies of the body (such as prana, or life energy) and the chakras (energy centers in the body). It combines mental focus, breathing techniques (pranayama), sound vibrations (mantras), postures (asanas), hand positions (mudras), relaxation and meditation to provide a more healthy happy and holy way of life for each person who practices it.
The word YOGA means “yoke” or “union”. Kundalini Yoga is the technology for merging, or yoking our individual consciousness with the universal consciousness, thus creating divine unity. The goal of practicing Kundalini Yoga is to give you an experience of your highest consciousness, connecting you to YOU!
We breathe - automatically! Each breath we take sustains our life. In Kundalini yoga we breathe though our nose, unless stated otherwise. The CORRECT way to breathe is as follows: Upon inhalation, allow your belly to go out, inhale completely through the nose filling the lungs. on the exhale, pull the navel in toward the spine. As infants, we all breathe this way, as adults, we tend to breathe paradoxically, incorrectly or in reverse.
Begin with your hand on your navel. Stick out your tongue and pant like a dog. With each exhale, pull the navel toward the spine. Feel the light pull with each exhale, then close your mouth and continue the breath through your nose. This is Breath of Fire. It is a cleansing, invigorating breath used frequently in Kundalini Yoga.
Chant 3 times.
“Ong Namo Guru Dev Namo”
“I bow to the divine creative force, i bow to the teacher within me.”
Ong – Infinite, Creative
Namo – I Call On That
Guru –Transforming Wisdom
Dev – Subtle Energy
Each class ends with The Long Time Sunshine Song and long “Sat Nam” meaning Truth is my Identity
“May the long time sun shine upon you, all love surround you, and the pure light within you, guide your way on.”
There are 3 primary locks used in Kundalini Yoga. The locks are to assist the movement of energy from the root chakra to the crown chakra.
Squeeze the anal sphincter, sex organs and navel simultaneously. This moves the energy from the lower chakras to the upper chakras.
Pull the upper abdominal muscles back toward the spine and lift the diaphragm up toward the thorax. Normally done on the exhale.
Stiiting with a straight spine contract the neck and throat, keeping the head level and neutral. This straightens the cervical bones and allows prana to flow freely into the head.
THE GREAT LOCK
The application of all 3 locks, simultaneously. Starting with the root lock, adding the diaphragm lock, then the neck lock. This is applied on an exhale in is released upon the following inhale.
